Even though Hourglass Angel didn’t have a website development team, the company managed to build and maintain its eCommerce store on the Magento platform. Without such a team, it was challenging for Hourglass Angel to update and manage the store.
Over time, the eCommerce store became somewhat of a liability. Many of the expensive, subscription-based third-party apps and plugins the company used for functionalities like search, email, CRM, payment, and accounting were outdated and costly to maintain.

Making matters worse, the Magento platform was undergoing a major update that required Hourglass Angel to migrate to version two of Magento. Instead of blindly updating, the Hourglass Angel team decided to evaluate the option of migrating to a new, more stable, and more modernized platform that would help the company grow and scale its eCommerce business.
Intending to alleviate a long list of pain points, the Hourglass Angel team closely examined the option of migrating to Shopify Plus or BigCommerce Enterprise. For assistance with making the ultimate decision and implementing the actual migration, the Hourglass Angel team turned to DigitlHaus.

As soon as that decision was made, the DigitlHaus team began migrating the store to BigCommerce and reworking the user experience according to a nine-point methodology that considered every element of the website’s design and construction. The objective was to implement the best shopping experience to attract new customers while increasing overall sales.
The DigitlHaus team designed and developed a modern and engaging shopping experience. So that the Hourglass Angel team could have more control over their website, the DigitlHaus team built pagebuilder templates that can be easily reused whenever necessary.
Also, the DigitlHaus team either replaced or minimized the number of technologies used to support the store. For instance, the switch to BigCommerce resulted in a monthly savings of $1,800 because the platform features native search filtering and suggested search capabilities that significantly improve browsing and product search. Additionally, the DigitlHaus team set up global returns processing using iParcel, which resulted in nearly $1,000 in monthly savings.
The DigitlHaus team redesign emphasized top products throughout the home page and global navigation for easier visibility. Also, the team upgraded the store with Klaviyo for email marketing management, helping Hourglass Angel streamline communication with shoppers.
While some technologies were updated to save on the total cost of ownership, other technologies stayed the same. However, Hourglass Angel could navigate to more accessible and affordable usage of those remaining technologies because they integrated so well with BigCommerce.
To improve the all-important user engagement, the DigitlHaus team implemented Yotpo to support eCommerce retention marketing. The goal was to increase user engagement, the number of reviews, and the creation of user-generated content.
